The Post-Graduation Program in Biotechnology Applied to Agriculture encompasses three lines of research at Universidade Paranaense. As well as developing the Master dissertations or the Ph.D. thesis, these lines integrate student Research Mentorship tutoring, Course Final Paper for the graduation courses and Lato Sensu Post-Graduation courses, and the supervision of Post-doctoral students.

Biotechnology Applied to Agricultural Microbiology

The purpose is to study microorganisms of economic, therapeutic, agricultural and environmental interest regarding their genetics, active principle, function and biomass. As well as microorganisms originating from bio-prospection, usage of agricultural and agro-industrial residues, biological controls and the microorganism-plant relationship, symbiotic (biological fixation of nitrogen, mycorrhizal and growth promoting fungi) and pathogenic relations. Biotechnology Applied to Vegetable Improvement

It's purpose is to study the use of molecular markers, genic expression, genetic transformation or mapping, the culture of tissues and the vegetable cytogenetics for application in genetic improvement programs on plants. It uses molecular and/or traditional techniques, as well as bioinformatics, to create conditions for providing vegetable improvement. It can also characterize the organisms of agronomic interest, providing their improvement or ensuring the feasibility of their production, mainly those with lowest technical investments, such as medicinal plants.
